Question
ᎦᏁᏟᏴᏓ ᎰᏪᎸᎦIs there a way to move articles on this wiki without cutting-and-pasting? Thanks for any info. -ᎤᏴᏍᏗUyvsdi
- Sure. Which page do you want to be moved? --Ooswesthoesbes 15:21, 27 September 2010 (UTC)
- I moved ᎪᏛᏅ to ᏥᏍᏛᎾ using cut and paste, so you might want to double check those articles. One possible move: I'm wondering if ᎩᎦᎨ ᎠᏍᎦᏯ ᎠᎴ ᎤᏮᏖᎾ should read ᎩᎦᎨ ᎠᏍᎦᏯ ᎠᎴ ᎤᎧᏖᎾ? ᎣᏍᏳ, -ᎤᏴᏍᏗ 18:40, 27 September 2010 (UTC)Uyvsdi
- D'oh (ᏙᎣ!), I see where the move function is now. -ᎤᏴᏍᏗ 18:55, 27 September 2010 (UTC)Uyvsdi
- Ok, very well :) I think you couldn't see the function yet because you were a relatively "new" user. We can use people like you here, 'cause it has been quiet here for a few years. I'm only here to monitor the wiki a bit, because unfortunately I can't speak any Cherokee and I'm also not able to read it without a table :) --Ooswesthoesbes 18:24, 29 September 2010 (UTC)

I'm glad someone else is out there! Unfortunately I'm not fluent but I've studied under the late Bobby Blossom (ᎤᏥᎵᏙᏍ), Linda Jordan, Dennis Sixkiller, the late Eli Nofire, and Durban Feeling so at least I know what I don't know :) I've done Cherokee language typography so that's something. I'm going to try to get some fluent friends to help me with some basic sentences to flesh out some of the articles that are only one word and an image. ᎣᏍᏳ, -ᎤᏴᏍᏗ 21:12, 29 September 2010 (UTC)Uyvsdi
- Ok, very good :) I'm very glad people having at least a little bit proficiency in Cherokee haven found this wiki, 'cause it was quite inactive here :) Btw, ᏑᏪᏗ is about the Swedish language, not about the country. --Ooswesthoesbes 16:39, 1 October 2010 (UTC)
- ᎠᏂᎤᎦᎾᏍᏔ is "Swedish people", so I'll ask how that term could be formed into word for the language and country. Because of the Bible being translated into Cherokee, there's lot of words for places in the Middle East, which will be useful. Cheers, -ᎤᏴᏍᏗ 17:53, 1 October 2010 (UTC)Uyvsdi
- That's a bit strange yeah. ᏑᏪᏗ (su-we-di) does make sense however, ᎠᏂᎤᎦᎾᏍᏔ (a-ni-u-ga-na-ya-ta) looks like some sort of neologism to me. --Ooswesthoesbes 07:28, 2 October 2010 (UTC)
- Of course it's a neologism (Aniuganasta). The Cherokee Nation and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians both have groups of native speakers that meet regularly to create new words and fill in gaps. The CN group has named all the major oceans and seas, continents, bones in the human body, planets in the solar system (the planets are all transliterations), etc. They use transliterations sometimes but since the language is polysynthentic, creating new words using traditional descriptive morphemes strengthens the language, such as ᏄᏟᏍᏗ ᎬᏂᏍᏗᏍᎩ (fast cooker) for microwave as opposed to ᎹᎢᏠᏪᏂ. Or Arkansas is ᏲᏩᏁᎦ or simply ᏲᎾᎬ (Where the White People Come From) instead of ᎠᎵᎧᏌ. Since there are often multiple ways to write an existing word, probably the best thing is to list all the pre-existing spellings, but I don't think this is an appropriate place to invent new words. I know I'm definitely not qualified to do so. -ᎤᏴᏍᏗ 16:59, 2 October 2010 (UTC)Uyvsdi
- I'm rather familiar with neologisms :) My native language Limburgish uses them too, f.e. vólksmach (people power (democracy), instead of Dutch democratie). I think the best way to do for this wiki is to redirect the synonyms to a page title which is most common. And Wikipedia indeed isn't the place to invent new words, because that would be original research :) --Ooswesthoesbes 20:41, 4 October 2010 (UTC)

Speaking of neologisms, I accidentally stumbled upon something cool: the Eastern Band's language group with reports from their discussions: [1]. Best, -ᎤᏴᏍᏗ 21:39, 4 October 2010 (UTC)Uyvsdi
- Mm.. Pretty interesting they put that online :) --Ooswesthoesbes 19:32, 5 October 2010 (UTC)
Shouldn't this page be moved to a Cherokee name? --Ooswesthoesbes 15:38, 6 October 2010 (UTC)
- Yes. I'm not sure what the suffix "Indo-" would be. ᎢᏅᏗᎾ is the word for "India" (according to the Cherokee/Tsalagi Common Locale Data Repository). -ᎤᏴᏍᏗ 20:31, 6 October 2010 (UTC)Uyvsdi
- Mm.. Isn't the name mentioned in the article? --Ooswesthoesbes 04:45, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
- Not really, it starts with the word "Mola," which isn't a word in Cherokee. -ᎤᏴᏍᏗ 06:44, 8 October 2010 (UTC)Uyvsdi

admin -- here's how
ᎦᏁᏟᏴᏓ ᎰᏪᎸᎦHere's what you do: post a message on Talk:ᎤᎵᎮᎵᏍᏗ, saying "I want to be a sysop here, please voice your opposition or support" or something similar, no big speech needed. Then you wait for a week or two. After a week or two you go here and post your request. They'll probably give you 3 months; after the 3 months are up, you need to repeat that same spiel. It's kinda tedious, Stephen and I have been doing this for a while (example). I really encourage you to do this, though, since you're the only one who knows Cherokee. Seb az86556 21:42, 4 December 2010 (UTC)
- ᏥᎳ Seb, thank you for spelling out the steps. I only know a little Cherokee. I haven't contacted the teachers from the immersion classes in OK about having their students contribute to this wiki, but I will. ᎣᏍᏳ, -ᎤᏴᏍᏗ 22:15, 4 December 2010 (UTC)Uyvsdi
- ᎤᏲᎠᏰᎸᏗ! Saw your message, sorry to reply to your message late. I was also going to recommend you become a sysop or an admin or something. I disagree though that you are the only one who knows ᏣᎳᎩ, although I am very very weak. haha Anyway, if I can do anything else to support, let me know. Nesnad 10:09, 8 December 2010 (UTC)

Hi from Italy
ᎦᏁᏟᏴᏓ ᎰᏪᎸᎦDear Uyvsdi, I wonder if you can help us to translate and upload on chr.wikipedia a page about an artistic Movement [2]. It is very important for us. Thanks :)) --Aeron10 17:23, 31 UᏃᎸᏔᏂ 2011 (UTC)
- So sorry, that is beyond my ability. The Cherokee Nation Cultural Resource Center Language Services says they provide translation services. If they can help, I can at least transliterate and format material. -ᎤᏴᏍᏗ 20:26, 31 UᏃᎸᏔᏂ 2011 (UTC)Uyvsdi
RE:Good news
ᎦᏁᏟᏴᏓ ᎰᏪᎸᎦthat's cool... and they'll need an administrator. I think that should be you. Seb az86556 07:23, 5 August 2011 (UTC)
- btw, I noticed you copied all the rules and bureaucracy from English wikipedia. There is no requirement to "ape the English". You guys can write your own rules as you go along. Just a thought. Seb az86556 07:26, 5 August 2011 (UTC)
- I just trying to put some basics in place (templates, etc.). Hopefully some of the students in the class will take an interest in working on this wiki beyond just the class and stick with it. -ᎤᏴᏍᏗ 17:04, 11 August 2011 (UTC)Uyvsdi
